Unfortunately not very good news here. Polish cities in their architectonical respect (the buildings that is) are a bit of a challenge for handicapped people moving around in wheelchairs. Most municipal offices, institutions and cinemas and theatres or museums are not equipped with any special lifts or walkways for the mobile handicapped. One good aspect today is that all modern or renovated public buildings and all the new ones being built correspond to the norms and regulations for access for handicapped people. This is the result of the new EU regulations now in force in Poland. People have also become more aware of the needs and problems that handicapped people are faced with in our modern cities. There is still much to be done in this area, and if a handicapped person plans on coming to Poland they must be aware that they will need assistance from another person and that they cannot travel alone.
